Resetting Your Device

Occasionally, you may need to reset your device. A soft (or normal) reset of your device clears all active program memory and shuts down all active programs. This can be useful when your device is running slower than normal, or a program is not performing properly. A soft reset is also necessary after the installation of some programs. If a soft reset is performed when programs are running, unsaved work
will be lost.

To perform a soft reset

1. Pull out the stylus.
2. Use the stylus tip to press the RESET button located at the bottom of the device. Your device restarts and displays the Home screen.

You can also perform a hard reset (also known as a full reset). A hard
reset should only be performed if a normal reset does not solve a system
problem. After a hard reset, the device is restored to its default settings—
the way it was when you first purchased it and turned it on. Any programs you installed, data you entered, and settings you customized on your device will be lost. Only Windows Mobile® software and other pre-installed programs will remain.

Warning! Your device will be set back to factory default settings. Make sure that any additional installed programs and/or user data have been backed up before you perform a hard reset.

Important
If Encrypt files when placed on a storage card is enabled, backup all files from the storage card before using Clear Storage, hard reset, or updating the ROM system software. Otherwise you will no longer be able to access the encrypted files on the storage card. Use ActiveSync or Windows Mobile Device Center to transfer files between your storage card and computer. After the procedure, copy your files back to the storage card.

To perform a hard reset

2. With the device turned on, press and hold the VOLUME DOWN and ENTER buttons, then press the RESET button with the stylus tip.

your device.
2. Release the stylus, but continue pressing the two SOFT KEYs until you

Clear Storage

Another way of clearing the device storage and reset all settings back to factory default settings is to use the Clear Storage feature. You will lose all your data and files on the device storage when you use Clear Storage, so make sure to do a backup first.

Important If Encrypt files placed on storage cards is or was enabled before, then backup all files from the storage card before using Clear Storage, hard reset or updating the ROM system software. Otherwise you will no longer be able to access the encrypted files on the storage card. Use ActiveSync or Windows Mobile Device Center to transfer files between your storage card and computer. After the procedure, copy your files back to the storage card.

1. Tap Start > Settings > System tab > Clear Storage.
2. Enter “1234” then tap Yes.

You can select "Also format NAND Flash" if neccessary.

  2. Release the stylus, but continue pressing the TALK and END buttons until you see the following message on the screen:This operation will delete all your personal data, and reset all settings to manufacturer default. Press Action to restore manufacturer default, or press other keys to cancel.
  3. Release the TALK and END buttons, and then press ENTER on your device.

If you forget your password, you must hard reset before you can access your O2 Xda Stealth. A hard reset will erase all files and
data you have created and any programs you have installed.

Why does the screen freezes and does not respond to my commands or input?

Reboot the system to free up memory. The system shall operate more efficiently. If the system still lags after rebooting, you will need to clean boot your O2 Xda Stealth.
To clean boot, power off your O2 Xda Stealth and then press Windows key, OK key and the Power key at the same time, for about 5 seconds. Your O2 Xda Stealth will reset to factory defaults and reboot.

Please note: When you perform a clean boot on your O2 Xda Stealth, all your personalized settings, information, and programs installed will be removed. The system will reset to factory defaults.

Restarting your Smartphone
You may sometimes need to restart your Smartphone such as when a program is not performing properly, or the phone does not respond to key presses.
To restart your Smartphone
1. Remove the battery.
2. Reinsert the battery and turn on your phone.

A removed program can only be reinstalled by a hard reset. To perform a hard reset, push the joystick up and press the power key simultaneously while the phone is off. The screen will prompt you for confirmation.
Hard-resetting will reset the device to its factory default settings and ALL DATA WILL BE LOST.

Resetting your Smartphone will remove all the data from memory and restore the phone back to its factory default settings.
NOTE When you reset your Smartphone, all the data you have stored in RAM will be erased, including all files, system settings, and additional programs you have installed.

To reset your Smartphone

1. From the Home screen, press Start > More > Accessories > Default Settings.
2. Enter 1234 and press OK.
The phone will restart automatically after it has been reset.

You can perform a soft reset or a full reset – a soft reset restarts your device and a full reset switches the battery off. The result of a soft reset is that some data may be lost in programs that are open, however, the result of cutting power is to wipe all the data and new programs you have added, and return the device to factory setting – i.e. it will only have the software that was present when you bought it. On this basis, it is important not to think about a full reset as you would restarting, shutting down or even switching off improperly your desktop, but rather like a complete crash requiring you having to wipe your OS. The importance of backing up data to a SD card or your computer cannot be stressed enough - in the event you have to perform a full reset your data will not be lost.
To perform a soft reset:
If your Pocket PC Phone responds slowly stops responding or freezes, try soft resetting it. A soft reset causes the Pocket PC Phone to restart and re-adjust memory allocation. Unsaved data in open windows may be lost.

To perform a full reset - hard reset:
A full device reset clears memory, deletes all data and restores the Pocket PC Phone to its default settings. Programs installed at the factory remain, while data you have created and programs you have installed are erased.

Restarting Your Phone

Restart your phone when a programme is not performing properly or the phone is not responding to any keypresses.

To restart the phone

1. Remove the battery.
2. Wait for three seconds, then reinsert the battery and turn on your phone.

WARNING! If the phone is restarted while a programme is running, any unsaved work will be lost.

Resetting your phone will remove all the data from its memory and restore the phone back to the factory default settings.

WARNING! Because all your data will be deleted, it is recommended that you back up your data first before resetting your phone.

To reset your phone

1. Click Start > Expert > Clear Storage.
2. Follow the on-screen instructions to reset the phone. The phone will
restart after it has been reset.
The device restarts twice and performs a customization sequence. It normally takes the device 7 to 10 minutes to fully reset (note: do not take out the battery). Please wait until customization has been completed.

Resetting your Xda Atom

The action will erase all data that you have created and programs you have installed, but will keep all the preinstalled programs that were in the phone when your Xda Atom was first delivered to you.
Press and hold the power button, and then use the stylus to press the soft reset button at the same time. Be sure you have backed up all your data in an mini SD card or on your PC before performing a hard reset.

Resetting your O2 Xda Atom Life

If your O2 Xda Atom Life responds slowly, stops responding, or freezes, you can reset it in two ways: a soft reset or a hard reset.

status as the last time you used it, though unsaved data in any opened applications may be lost.

To perform a hard reset

A hard reset clears memory, deletes all data (such as owner information under Setup Wizard and AutoConfig) and restores the O2 Xda Flame to its default settings. Press and hold theWireless Manager key and the Camera & Video key at the same time, and then use the stylus to press the soft reset button. Be sure you have backed up all your data in a Micro SD card or PC before performing a hard reset.

It is possible to completely delete all data loaded onto your Xda II by holding the power key, and simultaneously pressing the soft reset button.
Please note:
This will delete absolutely all the data and applications that you have loaded on your Xda2.

Resetting Your Pocket PC Phone
You can perform a soft reset or a full reset. During a soft reset, the Pocket PC Phone is restarted and only some data in opened programs may be lost. However, a full reset turns the battery off, returns the device to its original factory settings, and deletes all programs, files, contacts, and other information you have saved to the device. Therefore, it is extremely important to back up data to a storage card or your computer on a regular basis in the event that a full reset has to be performed.

To perform a soft reset:

If your Pocket PC Phone responds slowly, stops responding, or freezes, you can soft reset it. A soft reset causes the Pocket PC Phone to restart and re-adjust memory allocation.
Unsaved data in any opened applications may be lost. Use the stylus to press and hold the Reset button, as shown below.

To perform a full reset
A full device reset clears memory, deletes all data, and restores the Pocket PC Phone to its default settings. Programs installed at the factory remain. All data that you have created and programs you have installed are erased.

Press and hold the Power button, and then use your stylus to press the “soft reset button” at the same time, as shown below. Be sure you have backed up all your data on an SD card or on a desktop PC before performing a full reset.

A full device reset clears memory, deletes all data and restores the O2 XDA IIs to itsdefault settings.
Programs installed at the factory remain,
erasing all data that you have created and programs you
have installed.
Press and hold the power button, and then use the stylus to
press the soft reset button at the same time. Be sure you
have backed up all your data in a SD card or on your PC
before performing a full reset.
