Resetting the T-Mobile Google G1 Android Phone

T-mobile G1 hard reset

Resetting the T-mobile G1 Google phone deletes all data, including downloaded applications, and resets the phone back
to its initial state before you turned on the phone for the first time. Important Make sure to back up important data you have on the phone before you perform a factory data reset.

1. The device must be powered OFF to G1 hard reset.
Note: If the device is not responsive and does not turn off, remove the battery and re-insert it.
2. Press and hold the Home button and the Power button at the same time.
3. Keep holding Home and Power together for at least 25 seconds, even if the "Startup" screen appears.
4. Release the keys when you see a black screen with a warning sign.
5. Slide the keyboard open.
6. As a shortcut, press ALT+W to factory reset the device. If this does not work, continue with the below steps.
7. Press ALT+L.
8. Press Alt+W for 'wipe data/factory reset'.
9. Press the Home + Back key.
Note: You can also remove the battery and re-insert it.

A factory reset is a drastic measure. It permanently erases all your
personal data and customized settings, and also removes any
programs you have installed. Make sure that you have backed up the
information and files you want to keep.
Important If your phone hangs or freezes, we recommend that you do a “soft” reset
instead of a hard/factory reset. To perform a soft reset, remove the battery,
wait for a few seconds, and then re-install it. After re-installing the battery,
turn on the phone.

Performing a factory reset using phone buttons

If you cannot turn on your phone or access the phone settings, you can
still perform a factory reset by using the buttons on the phone.

1 With the phone turned off, press and hold the Volume Down
button, and then briefly press the Power button.

2 When the Android images appear on the screen, release the
Volume Down button.
3 Press Volume Down to select Clear Storage, and then press Power.
4 Press Volume Up to start the factory reset.

Performing a factory reset via settings

The most convenient way to do a factory reset is via the phone settings.
1 Press Home, press Menu, and touch Settings.
2 Scroll down the screen, and then tap Privacy > Factory data reset.
3 On the Factory data reset screen, tap Reset phone, and then tap
Erase everything.

Resetting Your Device

If you experience some sluggishness with your device, you can perform a reset to shut down all programs and restart your
device.

To perform a soft reset

1. Pull out the stylus.
2. Use the stylus to press the RESET button located at the opening of the stylus compartment. Your device restarts and displays the Home screen.

reset should only be performed if a normal reset does not solve a system
problem. After a hard reset, the device is restored to its default settings—

To perform a T-Mobile MDA Compact IV hard reset

1. Pull out the stylus.
2. With the device turned on, press and hold the VOLUME DOWN and
ENTER buttons, then press the RESET button with the stylus tip.
3. Release the RESET button, but continue pressing the VOLUME DOWN and ENTER buttons until you see this message on the screen:

4. Release the VOLUME DOWN and ENTER buttons, then press the
VOLUME UP button to perform the hard reset, or press any other
button to cancel the reset.



Clear Storage

You can also use Clear Storage to reset your device back to factory default settings and/or format the internal storage.

1. On the Home screen, slide to the Settings tab and then tap All
Settings.
2. On the System tab, tap Clear Storage.
3. In the drop-down menu, select whether to Clear Storage only,
Format internal storage only, or Clear storage and format internal storage.
4. Enter “1234” and then tap Yes.

Occasionally, you may need to reset your device. A normal (or soft) reset of your device clears all active program memory and shuts down all active programs. This can be useful when your device is running slower than normal, or a program is not performing properly. A soft reset is also necessary after the installation of some programs.   2. After a brief period of time, two choices will appear on-screen. Press the CENTER OK button to perform the hard reset. Note If you do not want to perform a hard reset, press the CAMERA button to exit.
  3. Press the POWER button.

To restart the phone

1. Remove the battery.

Resetting your T-mobile Dash Phone


Resetting your phone will remove all the data from its memory which include contacts, tasks, calendar appointments, and more, and restore the phone back to the factory default settings.

To reset your T-mobile Dash phone

1. Click Start > Expert > Clear Storage.
2. Follow the on-screen instructions to reset the phone.

The phone will restart after it has been reset.

Factory reset
To reset theT-Mobile myTouch 3G phone using phone buttons

1. With the phone turned off, press and hold the HOME and BACK buttons.
2. Briefly press the END CALL/POWER button while continuing to press the HOME and BACK buttons.
3. When you see the screen with the 3 Android images, release the HOME and BACK buttons, and then press the TRACKBALL.

Tip If your phone hangs or freezes, remove the battery then wait for a few seconds, and then re-install it. After re-installing the battery, turn on the phone.
A Hard Reset restores the original factory settings and will erase all downloaded content, including ringtones, contacts stored in the handset memory, etc. It does not erase data stored on the SIM card or memory card (if available). Back up all necessary data on the device memory before proceeding.
Menu Path Method:
  1. From the Home screen, press the Menu key.
  2. Touch Settings.
  3. Touch and slide the menu upward.
  4. Touch SD card & phone storage.
  5. Touch Factory data reset.
  6. Touch Reset phone.
  7. Touch Erase everything.
  8. The device will dump all of the data and reload.
Key Stroke Method
  1. Power the device OFF.
    • Note: If the device is unresponsive and does not turn off, remove the battery and then reinsert it.
  2. Press and hold the Home key and the red End key for 30 seconds. Do not release the keys if the Startup screen appears.
  3. When the screen displays a warning sign, release the keys.
  4. Press the Home key and the Power key again.
  5. When the Android system recovery utility appears, use the trackball to scroll to and select Wipe data/factory reset.
  6. When the reset is complete, select reboot system now

T-mobile myTouch 3G Slide hard reset To perform a master reset, follow these steps:

Important: A master reset restores the original factory settings and may erase all downloaded content, including ringtones, images, programs, and contacts stored in the internal memory. It does not erase data stored on the SIM card or memory card (if available). A master reset will erase all your data and require you to sign in again and go through set up screens.

1. From the Home screen, press the Menu key.

Note: If you have not updated to the most recent software version and are still using original Android 1.6, follow these steps instead:


1. From the Home screen, press the Menu key.
2. Touch Settings.
3. Touch and slide the menu upward.
4. Touch Privacy.
5. Touch Back up my data & settings.
6. Verify that the Back up my data & settings check box is cleared.
7. Press the Back button.
8. Touch Factory data reset.
9. Touch Reset phone.
10. Touch Erase everything.

-Back up all necessary data, if the device is responding and can synchronize  files.
-Turn off the phone.     

* Note: If the phone is unresponsive and does not turn off,  remove the battery and then re-insert it.

- Press and hold the Volume Down key and then press the  Power key.
- When the screen with the three Androids appears, release the  Volume Down key.
- Press the Volume Down key to select Clear Storage.
- Press the Power key.
- Press the Volume Up key for YES to delete all user data.

* Note: To decline the reset, press the Volume Down key to select NO.

-When prompted to restore settings, select Cancel.

* Note: You may choose to restore the settings, if you were not having any problems with the device before the reset that could be related to settings.

If the phone is locked, frozen, or unresponsive, you can  reset it using the hardware buttons instead of the menu. To perform a hard reset using the hardware keys, follow these steps:

Note: A hard reset restores the original factory settings and  erases content, including downloaded ringtones, images, programs, and contacts stored in the internal memory. This feature allows for resetting of sound profiles, display settings, and phone or memory card settings. However, if you want to try resetting some factory settings without losing any data, then clear system cache before a master reset.

1. Save any open files, and back up all  necessary data on the internal memory if the device is responsive and can synchronize files.
2. If the phone is plugged into the  charger or USB cable, unplug it.
3. Remove the battery. 
* Important: Removing the battery is required. Turning off the phone with the Power key does not work, because of the Fast Boot feature.
4. Re-insert the battery.
5. Press and hold both the Volume Down key and the Power key. Do not release the volume key, continue on to step 6.
6. Release the Volume Down key when the three Android images appear on the bottom of the screen. The following options dsplay:    
* FASTBOOT
* RECOVERY
* FACTORY RESET
* SIMLOCK
* IMAGE CRC
* Note: If the you are stuck on a screen that says 'HBOOT' and 'FASTBOOT' without any other options to choose from, it means you have pressed the Back button. To get to the regular options, press either the Power key on HBOOT or the Back button.
6. Press the Volume Down key twice to select FACTORY RESET.
7. Press the Power key to initiate the master reset.
8. Wait as the device displays the boot up screen, then shows a picture of arrows above a device with a progress bar. It then restarts.

Important

Otherwise you will no longer be able to access the encrypted files on the storage card. Use ActiveSync or Windows Mobile Device Center to transfer files between your storage card and computer. After the procedure, copy your files back to the storage card.

Reset the Pocket PC Phone and Clear Memory

You can perform a soft reset or a full reset a soft reset restarts your device and a full reset switches the battery off. The result of a soft reset is that some data may be lost in programs that are open, however, the result of cutting power is to wipe all the data and new programs you have added, and return the device to factory setting i.e. it will only have the software that was present when you bought it. On this basis, it is important not to think about a full reset as you would restarting, shutting down or even switching off improperly your desktop, but rather like a complete crash requiring you having to wipe your OS. The importance of backing up data to a SD card or your computer cannot be stressed enough - in the event you have to perform a full reset your data will not be lost.

To perform a soft reset:

If your Pocket PC Phone responds slowly stops responding or freezes, try soft resetting it. A soft reset causes the Pocket PC Phone to restart and re-adjust memory allocation. Unsaved data in open windows may be lost.

be performed.

To perform a soft reset:

If your T-Mobile MDA III responds slowly, stops responding, or freezes, you can soft reset it.
A soft reset causes the T-Mobile MDA III to restart and re-adjust memory allocation. Unsaved
data in any opened applications may be lost. Use the stylus to press and hold the Reset button,
as shown bellow.

  1. Press and hold the Left SOFT KEY and the Right SOFT KEY, and at the same time, use the stylus to press the RESET button at the lower left side of your device.
  2. Release the stylus, but continue pressing the two soft key buttons. Release them only when you see the following message on your device screen: “Press Send to restore manufacturer default, or press other keys to cancel.“
  3. Press on your device. Warning! Your device will be set back to factory default settings. Please ensure any additional installed programs and/or user data have been backed up before a hard reset is performed.

Occasionally you may need to reset your MDA. A normal (or soft) reset of your device clears all active program memory and shuts down all
active programs. This can be useful when the device is running slower than normal, or a program is not performing properly. A soft reset is
also necessary after the installation of some programs. If a soft reset is performed when programs are running, unsaved work will be lost.
You can also perform a hard reset (also known as a full reset). A hard reset should be performed only if a normal reset does not solve a
system problem. After a hard reset, the device is restored to its default settings — the way it was when you first purchased it and turned it
on. Any programs you installed, data you entered, and settings you customized on the device will be lost. Only Windows Mobile software
and other pre-installed programs will remain.

To perform a soft reset

• Use the stylus to lightly press and hold the RESET button on the left side of your device. The device restarts and displays the
Today screen.

Warning! Always turn off your device before performing a soft reset or installing/replacing the battery and SIM card.

To perform MDA Vario hard reset


1. Press and hold the Comm Manager button and Voice Command button on the device. At the same time, use the stylus to lightly
press the RESET button.

2. Keep the Comm Manager button and Voice Command button pressed, and the following message will appear on the screen:

3. Release the two buttons, and press the Send button to perform a hard reset.
