Ericsson MC 218 hard reset

Ericsson MC218 Normal Reset

If you forget the password for the whole machine, you will not be able to use your MC 218 until you perform a ‘hard reset’. All the files on the internal disk drive will be lost.
If you find that you cannot exit a program normally, move to the Desktop screen and select List List open files on the File menu. Select the program from the list and press Close file.
If this does not work, or if your MC 218 appears to have locked up, you can always perform a ‘soft reset’. This should restart your MC 218 while preserving most of your information.
It is worth trying a soft reset if the keys on the MC 218 do not appear to respond, or if the MC 218 seems to switch on and you are sure the batteries are good (especially if the contrast still appears to work), but the screen is
otherwise blank.
• To perform a soft reset: gently press something like an unfolded paperclip into the reset hole, above the backup battery location.
Ericsson MC 218 full reset
After a soft reset, any changes to open Word or Sheet files (or OPL programs) are lost. Your other files on the disk drive are almost always safe.
It is possible (although unlikely) that a program failure causes the reset to lose the information on the disk drive and could even prevent the reset from working at all. If this happens, you will have to perform a ‘hard reset’.
WARNING! A hard reset resets the MC 218 completely, and all information on the internal disk drive is lost.
To perform a Ericsson MC-218 hard reset:

1. Press the unfolded paperclip into the reset hole as for the soft reset.
2. Close the battery cover.
3. Open your MC 218 and hold down both Shift keys.
4. Press Esc to switch on and a hard reset is performed.

Removing the main battery is one of the steps in resetting all information on a device. Take out the main batteries for at least 3 minutes, then insert them and turn on your Ericsson MC-16 device.

Removing Ericsson MC-16 main AA batteries

The two AA main batteries are stored under the battery plate on the bottom of the device, below the hinge for the cover. Slide the cover plate off and remove the two AA batteries. Reverse the process to reinstall the battery.

Removing Ericsson MC-16 back up battery

The backup battery is found under the small square door on the bottom of the device. Open the door and use the stylus to remove the old battery. Reverse the process to reinstall the battery.

Ericsson MC-16 Backup battery

The Ericsson MC-16 system uses one Li CR2032 battery for backup purposes. This backup battery will be used to maintain the system when the main batteries are removed from the system or when the main batteries are weak. The typical capacity of the backup battery is 180 mAh. The backup battery comes into operation when there is no ACIN signal and the VLB signal is active low. The Very Low Battery (VLB) signal is set to be low when the main battery voltage drops below 1.4 V. This signal is reset when the main batteries' voltages rise above 1.8 V.

If the backup battery is low, the device may function abnormally. The abnormalities may be related to the display, calibration, settings, sound, or other features. For example, the image on the screen will blink on and off or mix colors on the screen and/or the stylus may frequently need to be calibrated. Often the abnormality will occur with more frequency as the battery loses more power. The backup battery should be replaced AT LEAST every 6 months: sooner if the device is operated often with a low main battery.
