Resetting the Mobile Computer

If the mobile computer stops responding to input, reset it. There are two reset functions, warm boot and cold boot. A warm boot
restarts the mobile computer by closing all running programs. All data that is not saved is lost.

A cold boot also restarts the mobile computer, but erases all stored records and entries from RAM. In addition it returns formats,
preferences and other settings to the factory default settings.
Perform a warm boot first. If the mobile computer still does not respond, perform a cold boot.

Performing a Warm Boot - Soft reset

To perform a warm boot:


1. Press and simultaneously hold 7, 9 and Power. Do not hold down any other keys or buttons.
2. As the mobile computer initializes MC3000 demo window appears.
Files that remain open during a warm boot may not be retained.

Performing a Symbol MC3070 Cold Boot - Hard reset

A cold boot restarts the mobile computer and erases all user stored records and entries from RAM.
Never perform a cold boot unless a warm boot does not solve the problem. Cold boot resets the mobile computer, to the default settings.
All added applications and all stored data are removed. Do not cold boot without support desk approval.


To perform a cold boot:

1. Press and simultaneously hold the 1, 9 and Power keys. Do not hold down any other keys or buttons. As the mobile computer
initializes, the Symbol splash window appears for about a minute.

2. Calibrate the touch screen. See Calibration Screen to calibrate the mobile computer screen.

Resetting the EDA

There are two reset functions, warm boot and cold boot. A warm boot restarts the EDA by closing all running
programs. A cold boot also restarts the EDA, and also resets the clock. Data saved in flash memory or a memory card is not lost.
Perform a warm boot first. If the EDA still does not respond, perform a cold boot.

Performing a Warm Boot - Soft reset

Hold down the Power button for approximately five seconds. As soon as the EDA starts to boot release the Power button.
Performing a Cold Boot - Hard reset

To perform a cold boot simultaneously press the Power button and the 1 and 9 keys.

If the terminal stops responding to input, reset it.

Performing a Symbol PPT 8800 Soft Reset

A soft reset restarts the terminal and saves all stored records and entries.

Caution
Files that remain open during a soft reset may not be retained.
DO NOT perform a soft reset if the terminal is suspended. Press the power button to wake the terminal.

To perform a soft reset on the Standard 6-key keypad, press the Enter and keys while holding down either the left or right scan trigger and then releasing the keys.
To perform a soft reset on the 15-key keypad, press and keys while holding down either the left or right scan trigger and then releasing the keys.

Performing a Symbol PPT 8800 Hard Reset

A hard reset also restarts the terminal, but erases all stored records and entries. Therefore, never perform a hard reset unless a soft reset does not solve the problem.
To perform a hard reset:

1. Remove the battery cover.

2. While holding down the Function key, use the stylus to gently press the reset button.


3. Release the Function key.
4. Replace the battery cover.
5. Press .
6. As the terminal initializes its Flash File system, the Symbol splash screen displays for about a minute.
7. Calibrate the screen.

Caution
With a hard reset, formats, preferences, and other settings are restored to their factory default settings.
